Web influencers matter and can help you raise your own profile. Social media is a great way to develop strategic relationships with these influencers. Here is a strategy I picked up over at Social Media Examiner:
- Come up with a seed list of 10-20 influencers
- Monitor and communicate with your list via their RSS feeds through Google Reader and Hootsuite (for Twitter lists and LinkedIn Groups)
- Continuously refine your list to keep it short and efficient
- Listen before you speak, and then look for ways to be of service to your list to build credibility, trust and social capital
